Everyone expects it to be Chelsea. It’s a natural step up, and after looking great in Ligue 1 for a year and a half like Andrey Santos did, Barco is expected to follow the same path.

Chelsea fans have largely been vaguely aware of his success, but some might not realise just how effective he’s been in midfield for the Alsatians.

A look at the Ligue 1 stats for through balls completed this season is really eye opening. Barco completed 21. Next on the list was PSG’s Ousmane Dembele, with NINE.

That is a colossal difference, the kind of outlier that tells us we’ve got something special on our hands. What will be really interesting is seeing what Xabi Alonso thinks he can make of Barco. The likes of Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro will be rubbing their hands thinking about the passes played through to them.
