The Blues and the Red Dragons are two clubs that have made a number of headlines already this season. Wrexham's rise from non-league has been well documented over the last couple of years as Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, took ownership of the club in 2020 and have since led them to great success.

Their documentary, 'Welcome to Wrexham' has been a massive hit with football lovers as it highlights the ins and outs of running a lower-league football club.

Wrexham earned promotion to League One earlier this year, while Birmingham City suffered relegation into the same division, meaning the clubs would meet in league action for the first time since 1995.

Birmingham are another club who have links to a famous American star, as NFL legend, Tom Brady became Chairman of the Board at St Andrew's last summer. His first season in the role did not go as planned, unfortunately, as the Blues suffered a shock relegation to League One.

Their summer transfer window has had everyone talking, though, as they have spent millions of pounds building a squad that will ensure they earn an immediate promotion back to the Championship. Most notably, they paid Fulham a reported fee of over £15m for striker Jay Stansfield, in a move that broke all kinds of records.

With Birmingham and Wrexham both in League One, their first meeting was highly anticipated, and saw a number of very famous individuals in attendance. David Beckham, for example, was spotted in the crowd at St Andrew's on Monday evening to take in this highly-talked about fixture.

What did David Beckham say about his experience?

The day after attending the League One clash, Beckham appeared on CBS to cover the Champions League with Kate Abdo, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, and he briefly spoke about the enjoyment he felt at St Andrew's.

"It was great last night, the atmosphere was amazing. I've not seen an atmosphere like that for a long time. The Birmingham fans and the Wrexham fans were incredible."

Beckham then went on to share a comical story about his conversations with Birmingham City co-owner Tom Brady at the game.

"Tom Brady was sat next to me, and he was like 'the atmosphere is amazing, it's really amazing, but what are they singing?'

"I was like, 'you want to know exactly what they're signing about your team and what your team are singing about Wrexham?'

"He said 'yeah tell me', so I told him, and he found it very funny!"

As mentioned, there was a lot of hype around this game as two clubs who had spent a lot of money for the level that they are at, battled it out for the first time since the 1990s. Fortunately, the game did not disappoint.

After just three minutes, the visitors, Wrexham, caught the home crowd by surprise as Jack Marriott gave his side the early advantage.

That did not seem to bother the Blues too much though, as £15 million striker, Jay Stansfield levelled the scoring after 22 minutes to the delight of everyone involved with Birmingham City.

Stansfield was determined to prove he is worth every penny of his price tag, as early in the second half he added a second to give Birmingham the lead for the first time in the game.

Fellow new signing, Tomoki Iwata, wrapped up the victory just seven minutes later and the game finished 3-1 to Tom Brady's Blues.

Both clubs are expected to compete at the very top end of League One this season, but it was Birmingham who came out on top on this occasion, as the home crowd got behind their team.
