Insider reveals: Bayern finds this Bundesliga star „really exciting“

FC Bayern are already working intensively in the background on squad planning for the summer transfer window 2026. Even though one of the biggest construction sites in the center of defence has been closed with the imminent contract extension of Dayot Upamecano, the Munich club are still keeping a close eye on the market. One name that keeps coming up is Luka Vuskovic from Hamburger SV

With Jonathan Tah and Upamecano, the record champions are in an excellent position in the center of defence for the time being, but there could still be movement in defence. The reason for this is the uncertain future of Minjae Kim. The South Korean has been a candidate for sale for months and could leave the club in the summer. If he does indeed leave, Bayern would be forced to look for an adequate replacement – and this is exactly where Vuskovic comes into play

The 18-year-old central defender, who is on loan to HSV from Tottenham Hotspur, has quickly developed into one of the most exciting defensive talents in the Bundesliga. His performances have not gone unnoticed at Säbener Straße either. Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg recently confirmed that the name Vuskovic is definitely being discussed internally at FC Bayern

„Bayern think Luka Vuskovic is really exciting, they have a high opinion of him. He is regularly monitored, the wires are short,“ explained Plettenberg on At Broski – Die Sport-Show. This underlines how intensively Munich are looking at the Croatian international – even if a concrete move is not yet imminent

Ahead of the Bundesliga home game against Hoffenheim, sporting director Max Eberl also commented on the rumours. „First of all, we have to sort out our ‚internal transfers‘. Once that’s done, we’ll have a top-class defence,“ Eberl clarified. At the same time, he emphasised: „That doesn’t mean that Vušković isn’t a good player. He’s 18, is playing an excellent season at HSV and belongs to Tottenham.“

Summer transfer currently rather unlikely

Despite his high regard, Plettenberg does not expect a transfer to Munich in the short term. „I think a move to Munich is currently unlikely, as Dayot Upamecano will extend his contract and Jonathan Tah is also set,“ said the Sky reporter. However, Vuskovic remains a candidate for the summer of 2026 if the personnel situation in the center of defence changes

However, a transfer would be anything but easy. Vuskovic is still under contract with Tottenham until 2030 and does not have a release clause. His market value has now risen to around €40 million – and the trend is still rising. Particularly piquant: Bayern could have already signed the defender in 2023 for around €5 million, but decided against a transfer at the time. A decision that in retrospect turned out to be a clear miscalculation

Should Minjae Kim actually leave FC Bayern, Luka Vuskovic could become a concrete topic in the summer of 2026. One thing is certain: Munich have the HSV star firmly on their radar.
