Inter haven’t sold a linchpin in years since they found better financial stability after their latest ownership change, but it could happen in the summer, for monetary and technical reasons, and Marcus Thuram and Alessandro Bastoni are the leading candidates to depart.
According to TuttoSport, the Nerazzurri anticipate a strong bid from Saudi Arabia for the French striker. His performances have considerably dipped this campaign. He’s perhaps been affected by the rise of Francesco Pio Esposito. He’s about to turn 29 and could seek a last rich payday. His contract lasts until 2028, with a €6M salary and a €85M release clause. He has scored just once in 2026.
Thuram has even been linked to Juventus, but that’s improbable, while he’ll surely have suitors in the Premier League, and the same goes for another Inter staple, Bastoni, who has been frequently attached to Barcelona.
Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri could opt for one or two major sales to finance their next additions. The center-back hasn’t been as good as in the past. He’s no longer worth €70M or so. A €50M offer could entice the hierarchy.
The former doesn’t appear to have clicked with Christian Chivu and doesn’t fare as well if his status as the star of the team comes into question. The release clause, which is a tad high but not unreasonably so, offers an escape route for their execs, who have often denied their interest in player trading as a roster-building tool. In his current version, he’s easier to replace than the center-back. He’d actually fit quite well at Juventus, but that’s basically a non-starter, given his price tag and the history between the two outfits.
