Inter will have to keep looking to find an heir to Denzel Dumfries, as Anan Khalaili, for whom they had reached an agreement with Union SG on a €25M move plus add-ons, wasn’t cleared to play in Serie A by the Olympic Committee, which handles this sort of thing.
The medicals are usually the routine final step of the process, but not in this case. The problems started emerging over the weekend, as the doctors unusually prescribed a new round of exams.
Inter president Giuseppe Marotta explained that the matter is out of the club’s hands in a presser (via Sky).
“Khalaili didn’t pass the medicals, as decided by CONI. It’s a force majeure situation we just have to deal with. We had successfully negotiated his acquisition. There are very strict health-related guidelines in Italy.”
The Nerazzurri have quickly been linked to Guéla Doué as the transfer started collapsing. However, they’ll have to disburse at least €30M. He’s closer to Marco Palestra than to the Israeli international in terms of price tag, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).
Christian Chivu suggested an option while talking to the journalists too.
“I have the crazy idea of turning Andy Diouf into a wing-back, but I would have to be very good at convincing him and teaching him certain things. I like him there, and he has some characteristics we are lacking.”
It’s an exceptional situation this time, but their unlucky summer continues. They are fortunate that the gap over their rivals was large to begin with, or they’d be in a little bit of trouble. Diouf has been decent there and is hard-working, but he can at most be a deputy if they moved on from Luis Henrique.
