Inter de Limeira sign 31-year-old Gabriel Dias for Série C comeback | OneFootball

Inter de Limeira have signed the versatile Gabriel Dias for the Série C campaign, Globo.com reports. The 31-year-old, announced as a right-back but also used at centre-back and in midfield, has played for Internacional, Cruzeiro and Vasco and is seeking a fresh start after injury.

He last featured on 9 March 2024 for Avaí, when he was forced off after two minutes. Since then he has recovered from a patellar tendon problem in his right knee and returned to ball work at the start of this season.

With his contract expiring at the end of February without renewal, Dias became a free agent. He accepted Inter de Limeira’s offer and has been training as he waits for his first chance back on the pitch.

The patellar tendon issue had troubled him before. While at Vasco in 2022 he left the field in tears during a match after a month of treatment for the same condition, which the club’s medical department termed tendinopathy, inflammation of the tendons.

A Palmeiras academy graduate, Dias made 24 appearances for Internacional in 2018 and had a short stint at Cruzeiro in early 2024. At Fortaleza he won back-to-back Ceará state titles in 2019 and 2020 plus the Copa do Nordeste, scoring four goals in 85 games. His CV also includes Ceará, Mogi Mirim, Paraná and Boa Esporte-MG.

Inter de Limeira sit 10th in Série C with four points from three matches, one defeat, one win and one draw. They visit Barra-SC on Sunday at 17:00.
