Inter president Giuseppe Marotta recently voiced his desire to continue luring the best Italian talents, and they will try in the summer, but it’s going to be a very pricey endeavor, Tuttomercatoweb reports.
The top name on their shortlist is Marco Palestra, but Atalanta want to keep him for at least one season. They need a new wing-back, and they think his value could increase further. Only a €50M offer could make them change their mind this summer.
Inter are waiting in the wings to see whether Giovanni Leoni could become available after missing most of his first Liverpool season due to an ACL tear. They are keen on Pietro Comuzzo, who’s tumbled down the pecking order at Fiorentina after standing out last year. Instead, Michael Kayode has had a respectable season at Brentford after leaving the Viola. He transferred for €17.5M last summer.
The Scudetto holders are tracking two more Atalanta gems, Honest Ahanor and Giorgio Scalvini, but they’d have to empty their coffers to snare one of the two. The former has had an up-and-down campaign, but he’s super young. Real Madrid are also on his trail.
It has become a lot more arduous to acquire players from La Dea, and no Italian club has really managed lately. Palestra has major upside, but he has to take an extra step in the final third before being worth such a large investment. Still, he’s probably the likeliest candidate, given the uncertainty surrounding Denzel Dumfries. Ahanor and Comuzzo need more seasoning to be ready, while Scalvini could easily be a rotational piece and would fit their style still very well, but his price tag is likely massive.
