Inter vice president Javier Zanetti voiced his appreciation for Santiago Castro, whom his club is actively tracking, and Cristian Romero. He’d like to see more of his compatriots join the Nerazzurri. He spoke to TyC Sports (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“We have Lautaro Martinez, who gives me a lot of joy. It’s not easy to sign Argentinians because they are very expensive, while the challenge for us is to be sustainable. Who wouldn’t want them, though? For instance, Romero is a complete defender and a leader. I like him a lot. He’s an old-school player who’s key for La Seleccion.”

Zanetti was quizzed directly about Inter pursuing Castro.

“First of all, he’s doing very well at Bologna. Honestly, you can notice that he’s very involved in ever game, besides his scoring. The great players, especially the youngsters, are always on the radar of the best clubs in the world because of their upside. I’m sure a few outfits are after him already.”

Zanetti took stock of the Scudetto race and Inter’s chances of winning the Champions League.

“We’re in the lead, with three more points than Napoli and six more than Atalanta. There are nine matches to go, plus the Coppa Italia semi-finals versus Milan, our rivals. We hope to win an important trophy that would coronate the hard work especially of the technical staff and then of the squad, which has been consistent for four or five years. We need the support from all the fans around the world. We’re aware it’s very difficult to win in Europe. The two Bayern Munich clashes will be difficult and nice to play. The two sides are very similar.”
