MIAMI – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues with hosts Inter Miami CF facing 2021 Copa Libertadores winners Palmeiras for the top spot in Group A on Monday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, USA.
The encounter will mark the second meeting between an MLS team and a Brazilian side in the tournament.
Lionel Messi will play against a Brazilian club for the second time in his career. The previous tilt was a 4-nil win over Santos as a member of FC Barcelona in the 2011 Club World Cup.
With a sensational free kick against Porto, Messi has now scored 50 goals in 61 appearances for Inter Miami across all competitions.
The MLS side has conceded penalties in both of their matches in the tournament. Goalkeeper Óscar Ustari has been clutch with nine saves.
The match will mark Palmeiras’ second encounter against a Concacaf opponent in Club World Cup history, after losing 1-nil to Mexican side Tigres UANL in the 2021 Semifinals.
José López has been a standout for Palmeiras as he’s scored in five different competitions for the club this year: Brasileirão Série A, Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Paulista, CONMEBOL Libertadores and the Club World Cup.
