Over the years, MLS has improved its rosters and emerged as a significant league capable of competing with top European leagues.

Before the Leagues Cup semifinal, Pochettino announced the national team roster.

Without zero surprise, no Inter Miami players were called up by the Argentine coach. However, the interesting fact about this is not the roster itself, but the comment made by the former Tottenham manager regarding the MLS.

In his statement, Inter Miami could be taken as proof to validate his theory.

Mauricio Pochettino: “The MLS is more competitive.”

The sayings by the Argentine could be taken in two ways. The first one, the MLS, is more competitive than other leagues, as any team has the chance to win the MLS Cup. And it is true.

In leagues like the Premier League, Bundesliga, or La Liga, you know before the start who the two or three teams competing for the title are. However, in the US, that theory could not be applied.

Consider LA Galaxy. Last season, they won the league, but now they find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference, with no chance of making the playoffs.

The USNMT coach said: “We have some players maybe competing in different leagues that maybe are not so competitive, or in every single week compete in the same way that you compete in MLS every single week. But that is my assessment.”

On the other hand, Pochettino could imply that when facing each other, the MLS doesn’t end up behind the top leagues in Europe. The FIFA Club World Cup could be taken as an example.

Inter Miami faced teams from Portugal, Brazil, Egypt, and France. Despite the terrible loss against PSG, the Herons competed on equal terms.

Inter Miami's group stage was outstanding. The squad became the only MLS team to qualify for the next round, leaving a historic team like Porto out of the competition.

That’s why the Argentine manager stated: “It's not necessary to move from MLS to Europe, because sometimes MLS, under my assessment, maybe is more competitive than some leagues in Europe.”
