The position of Francesco Acerbi at Inter Milan appears increasingly uncertain, whilst Yann Bisseck is growing in favour at the Nerazzurri.
After being left out for a third consecutive match in midweek against Kairat Almaty, Acerbi’s future has become a topic of growing discussion.
Particularly with his contract expiring in June and his 38th birthday approaching.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the defender’s situation has shifted significantly since the days of Simone Inzaghi.
Cristian Chivu, however, seems intent on reshaping his defensive core, and the form of Yann Bisseck may prove decisive.
“Acerbi may have seen the beginning of the end on a cold November evening,” writes Gazzetta.
“His exclusion against Kairat, following those against Verona and Fiorentina, has revealed a pattern. The veteran is no longer central in Chivu’s plans.”
In those games, Chivu preferred Bisseck and De Vrij in the central role.

Meanwhile Manuel Akanji has cemented his place as the right-sided defender.
The Swiss international has featured in all eight Serie A matches so far without being substituted.
With Bisseck adapting impressively to the heart of the back three, Inter see him as a potential long-term option in that position.
Meanwhile, Inter’s search for a new central defender has already begun ahead of 2026.
However, the German’s emergence could alter those plans.
Should Bisseck continue to convince in the middle, Acerbi’s opportunities are expected to diminish further in the months ahead.
