Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that a win over Empoli was necessary to respond to dropped points against Bologna.

The Nerazzurri captain spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Empoli yesterday.

Inter had their first real setback in Serie A in over two months last week.

The Nerazzurri had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Bologna on Wednesday. That was the first time that they dropped points in the league since November.

This meant that Inter are now really feeling the pressure from the title race. Particularly after Napoli managed to get a big Serie A win over Atalanta on Saturday.

Inter’s performance against Bologna was hardly a terrible one.

However, the Nerazzurri couldn’t really consider themselves unlucky. They had allowed Bologna to play their game, and didn’t look at their best.

Therefore, yesterday’s Serie A outing against Empoli was a big test for Inter.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez: “Win Vs Empoli Necessary To Respond To Dropped Points Vs Bologna”

Inter captain Martinez said that “in my opinion we played a great match against Bologna.”

“But we didn’t do well in the details. So we drew.”

“We dropped two points, and in my opinion today we had to respond,” Martinez said.

“In the first half we struggled,” the Inter captain said of facing Empoli. “Because they closed off the spaces in behind.”

“They didn’t create any danger for us. But there were few spaces.”

“In the second half we started to move the ball faster,” Martinez went on. “We started to find the spaces, and we deservedly won the match.”

Martinez admitted that “we could have done more in the first half.”

“But it’s ok. During halftime we talked amongst ourselves, and the coach Farris gave a good speech to the team.”

“He motivated us,” Martinez said of the Inter assistant coach, who was filling in for the suspended Simone Inzaghi.
