Inter captain Martinez missed out on yesterday’s Serie A match against Lecce.

The Argentine was absent due to some muscular fatigue, as Inter coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed.

The problem was not overly serious for Martinez. But Inzaghi decided not to risk the captain, who is still working his way back to fitness after a late post-Copa America return to training.

Mehdi Taremi got his first start for Inter in yesterday’s match in Martinez’s absence. He played alongside Marcus Thuram in attack.

Now, the big question could be whether Martinez will be able to return to the pitch in time for Inter’s next Serie A match.

The Nerazzurri take on Atalanta in just five days’ time. They host La Dea in the first Friday kickoff of the Serie A season.

Today, Sky report, Inter’s squad are just engaging in cooldowns from yesterday’s match in training. There was a joint session with the Under-18 side, according to the broadcaster.

But Martinez did not participate in today’s session with the rest of the squad, reports Sky.

Rather, the Argentine has worked on his own recovery program.

One way or the other, a return is not too far away for Martinez. His injury is nothing more than muscular fatigue.

However, there is some question about whether or not Martinez can get back to fitness and match-sharpness in time for Friday’s match against Atalanta, Inter’s last before the first international break of the season.

According to Sky, tomorrow will be the first day that the Inter captain’s fitness is monitored.

Inter coach Inzaghi will have a few days to decide whether Martinez is ready to play against Atalanta or not.
