Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is cautioning against counting on qualification for the Champions League knockouts even after beating RB Leipzig.
The Nerazzurri coach expressed his happiness with his team’s performance in the match speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews. However, he was not taking anything for granted.
Inter took another big step towards the Champions League knockout rounds this evening.
If anything, the Nerazzurri put one foot into directly qualifying for the knockout rounds.
Inter beat Leipzig 1-0. This was their fourth win from five matches in the Champions League.
That means that Inter are currently top of the table for the “league phase” of the newly-revamped format of the competition. At least until Liverpool play tomorrow.
Inter are certainly in a strong position to qualify directly for the round of sixteen of the competition, therefore.
However, there is still work for the Nerazzurri to do.
“The guys played a great match against a team who don’t deserve to be as far down the table as they are,” he went on. “They’re a team with great quality.”
“However, they were facing a great Inter team,” Inzaghi went on.
“The only thing we were lacking was the second goal,” the Inter coach said.
“But across ninety minutes we only allowed one shot on target.”
Inzaghi called it a “Great win that allows us to stay on course in the Champions League.”
“It’s still premature to start counting on anything,” the Nerazzurri coach warned. “But so far we’ve been on a great path.”
“We know that one goal can make a big difference though. So we have to pay attention to every last detail.”
