Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram showed how lethal his instincts have become with his second ever career hattrick against Torino.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

There has been a fairly clear trajectory to Thuram’s career in terms of his position and style of play.

Early on in his career, the Frenchman played mostly as a winger.

Thuram relied on his speed and dribbling ability to be a threat in wide areas during his time with Sochaux and Guingamp in his native France.

Then in 2018, Thuram made the move to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Over four seasons with Gladbach, Thuram started to show his versatility more and more.

Various Gladbach coaches started to use Thuram as more of an attacking midfielder, second striker, or even out-and-out centre-forward in fairly fluid front threes.

Inter signed Thuram with the clear intention of making him a striker.

Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio was the mastermind of the transfer. He had always marked Thuram out as a player with the right qualities to play in a strike partnership.

And last season, the Frenchman really shone. He adapted very quickly to Inter’s 3-5-2 formation, and found a good understanding with Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez in attack.

However, Thuram was not wildly prolific. Rather, he offered Inter a combination of assists and goals along with an overall presence up front.

This season, though, Thuram has become more and more of a threat in behind.

The 27-year-old has also shown a more incisive presence in the penalty area very close to goal.

Two headed goals against Torino yesterday were a testament to how much of a pure striker Thuram has become.

Yesterday’s hattrick was not Thuram’s first.

The France international’s first three-goal haul came for Gladbach. But it was in a German Cup match against Oberachern, which Gladbach won by a 9-1 scoreline.

This time out, Thuram has managed the feat against much tougher opposition.

This is a testament to just how much of a true goalscorer Thuram, once largely seen as a winger, has turned into.
