Links between Inter and Maldini have emerged in recent days.

Reports indicate that Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio was at Monza’s recent Serie A match against Roma. Scouting Maldini was one of the main priorities for the executive.

Naturally, a move for Maldini by Inter would raise some eyebrows.

The Monza attacking midfielder bears a famous name. He is the son of legendary former AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini.

Maldini in fact came through the youth ranks at the Rossoneri.

However, the 22-year-old has had to make his name at other clubs after failing to real break through at Milan.

Maldini has built his reputation on loan with the likes of Spezia, Empoli, and Monza.

Over the summer he joined the Brianzoli on a permanent basis, and he has put in some outstanding performances for the Lombard club at the start of this season.

Inter’s interest in Maldini may be quite a surprise given his strong connection to their derby rivals.

And the same could be true of Juventus. The Bianconeri may not have quite the same sort of rivalry with Milan as Inter, but a move for Maldini could still raise some eyebrows.

Nevertheless, both Inter and Juventus are closely following Maldini’s development, reports the Gazzetta.

Apart from the 23-year-old’s strong Rossoneri connections, he is also a full Italian international now.

That is always an asset from the perspective of Inter and Juventus.

Therefore, reports the Gazzetta, there is no doubt that both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri consider Maldini as a potential target.

But it could be Maldini’s former club Milan who hold the advantage.

The Rossoneri sold Maldini to Monza on a permanent basis over the summer. He signed a two-year contract with the Brianzoli.

However, Milan are entitled to 50% of future resale, which would make a deal for Maldini more straightforward.
