Inter Milan icon Beppe Bergomi has hailed the Nerazzurri’s remarkable Serie A season under new boss Cristian Chivu.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Bergomi deemed Inter’s impressive domestic run a ‘miracle.’

Despite lacking experience in top-flight management, the 45-year-old is close to winning the Scudetto in his first year at the club.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri sit six points clear of second-placed AC Milan, with only eight games left to play.

However, there’s no room for complacency, especially after going winless in their last league outings.

Despite overseeing Inter’s worst winless run in Serie A since 2023, Chivu has outperformed his predecessor, Simone Inzaghi.

The 20-time Italian champions have amassed two points more than they did at this stage of last season.

“For me, it’s almost a miracle that Inter are up there, given the circumstances. But right now, they’re fragile. They’re no longer playing their football,” said Beppe Bergomi.

“Some players are struggling because they’ve been carrying the load, others have just come back and are finding it tough, and there are also those who haven’t delivered.

“Lautaro is fundamental, but the team needs a mental shift and to overturn this negativity: to move forward, they have to forget about being six points clear,” Bergomi finished.

Inter will return to action on April 5 with a must-win home clash against top-four hopefuls Roma.

Despite recent form woes, Chivu can draw confidence from Lautaro Martinez’s impending recovery.

Indeed, the 28-year-old striker should regain full fitness during the international break.

Therefore, he is likely to lead the line when Gian Piero Gasperini’s men roll into town next month.
