Apart from worrying about Manchester United’s poor Premier League form, Ruben Amorim is also fretting on the injury status of several key stars.

Midfield is one area where the Portuguese is short on quality with Kobbie Mainoo out until April while Toby Collyer also remains sidelined.

Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes are the only quality options at the head coach’s disposal with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro not suited to playing in Amorim’s high-intensity style, which explains their lack of starts.

Mason Mount has been a huge miss for the Portuguese tactician with the England international a perfect fit for his system given his boundless energy off the ball and his ability to play in multiple positions up front.

Mount’s injury-riddled United career

The former Chelsea star has been a disastrous signing for the Red Devils with Mount missing 25 games this season and 31 in the last campaign.

He made only three starts under the current coach before picking up a thigh injury and INEOS seem to be running out of patience with the Englishman.

The 20-time English league champions had paid an initial £55 million for his services in 2023 but given his poor injury record, Amorim might be better served looking for a replacement in the summer.

As per InterLive, Inter Milan are ready to take a risk on Mount, despite his injury record, and are eyeing a loan deal with an option to buy.

But they will struggle to afford Mount’s massive £250,000 gross per week wages (via capology), which is why they want United to pay a significant portion of it.

“Many have labelled Mason Mount as one of England’s finest talents, but after a great start to the game in Britain’s top league, his performances have slipped, especially since joining Manchester United.

Inter eyeing loan with option to buy

“His agents are working and could find him a new position for next season. His valuation has plummeted and has reached 30 million euros, but his salary remains very high.

“Inter would include him in the squad in the role of Mkhitaryan, but would be willing to bring him to Milan only on loan with an option to buy and with significant help in paying his salary.”

Whether INEOS agree to such a request remains to be seen. They have not been afraid of moving players on and while they would prefer a permanent solution, a loan deal could allow the midfielder to regain his form and would also increase his market value and allow the Red Devils to recoup a larger fee.

Serie A’s slow pace could also help Mount avoid injuries. Whether Amorim greenlights his exit remains to be seen. But in the player’s case, the curse of the No 7 jersey seems to have struck again.
