Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta says that he would “rule out” moves for Marcos Alonso and Albert Gudmundsson this summer.

He also expressed his happiness at agreeing a contract extension with Lautaro Martinez.

The transfer window has now officially been open for a few days.

Inter have already made three signings all but official – Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, and Josep Martinez.

But that may not be the only transfer business that Inter do this summer.

There are two months in which the Nerazzurri will have to navigate the transfer market.

But the overall sense is that this will not be another transfer window like last summer, which saw twelve players leave Inter and twelve new signings come in to take their place.

Rather, the Nerazzurri are largely aiming to keep the squad that won last season’s Serie A title together.

Therefore, there won’t be too many more big signings.

Rather, Inter will consider opportunities and react to any unexpected developments.

But one such development has certainly come up. And it is an unwelcome one.

Inter wingback Tajon Buchanan has suffered a serious leg injury while on international duty with Canada. This will cause him to miss the first few months of next season.

Therefore, the rumour mill is already swirling that Inter could make an emergency signing in light of Buchanan’s injury.

Marcos Alonso is one name that has come up. The 33-year-old former Chelsea and Fiorentina wingback is available on a free transfer after his contract with Barcelona expired.

And then, there have been strong links between Inter and Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson.

Beppe Marotta: “I’d Rule Out” Alonso & Gudmundsson Moves To Inter

As far as Buchanan’s situation, Inter President Marotta said that “We feel sorry about what happened to Buchanan.”

“He’s young. And from the information that we’ve received the surgery was very successful.”

Marotta continued that “We’ll evaluate how complete our squad is.”

“Regardless of who’s available or not.”

And regarding links to Alonso and Gudmundsson, Marotta said that “I think I’d rule them out. We already have a strong squad,” the Nerazzurri President made clear.

As far as Inter’s prospects for successfully defending their Serie A title next season, Marotta commented that “It’s generally tough to be the team to beat.”

“We have the Scudetto on our chests. Our opponents will cause problems for us.”

“We’ll do our best to do our best,” said the Inter President.

And Marotta also praised Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.

“Lautaro is making good on the qualities that he had when he was younger,” said the Nerazzurri President.

“He didn’t used to have the sense of authority that he found with Inter. It’s no coincidence that he’s also captain.”

“We’re happy to have agreed a contract extension with him,” Marotta said of the captain.

“He’ll wear the Nerazzurri shirt for a few more years,” the President assured.
