Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio discussed the club’s plans for Gianluigi Donnarumma and Davide Frattesi.

Speaking to Sky Sport ahead of tonight’s clash against Sparta Prague via FCInterNews, Ausilio stressed the importance of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.

“I think it’s obvious,” he stated. “Beyond the financial aspect, which is certainly important, the focus is primarily on the technical side, the prestige, and the ambition of the club.

“We have only one goal: to advance to the next round, ideally among the top eight.

“However, this will require overcoming two extremely difficult matches. I trust the players more than algorithms – I don’t even look at them because they’d drive me crazy.

“We’ll take it one game at a time, starting tonight.”

Inter head into proceedings as warm favorites, seeking three points that would bring them a step closer to locking down a top-eight finish.

Piero Ausilio Opens Up on Inter Milan Stance on Davide Frattesi

Meanwhile, Ausilio also discussed Davide Frattesi’s future.

Frattesi has reportedly requested to leave Giuseppe Meazza after growing tired of being a bit-part player under Simone Inzaghi.

The Italian midfielder’s boyhood club, Roma, have spent most of the January transfer window trying to lure him back to the capital.

However, Ausilio insists Inter are ‘happy’ with the 25-year-old amid talks they will only consider offers north of €40 million.

Furthermore, he played down rumors over Frattesi’s alleged transfer request.

“It’s much simpler than it seems: the player has never asked to leave,” Ausilio said.

“The coach has assessed the squad; we know our objectives, which are numerous, and that he is an important player for us.

“He has never explicitly expressed the idea of leaving, and there haven’t been any clubs presenting themselves in front of us with offers.

“He does, however, have a likable agent, a friend, but we know he’s also active and may have stirred some interest around him.

“From that perspective, the attention has become more media-driven.

“We’re happy with him. He’s played less due to significant physical issues, but I’d add that he has always made himself available and never backed down.”

Tajon Buchanan Could Leave

In addition to Frattesi, Tajon Buchanan could leave Inter by the end of January.

Indeed, Torino are keen to sign the Canadian wignback on loan with an option to buy.

But unlike Frattesi, the Nerazzurri could consider letting the ex-Club Brugge star link up with the Granata.

“We’re assessing with him and his entourage whether it would be more appropriate to complete his development elsewhere in the coming months.

“He has played little due to injury, and there are both Italian and foreign clubs interested.

“We’re evaluating the situation. But I wouldn’t rule out him staying because we have many matches to play, and all our players are important and international level.

“We’ll listen to everyone, but he hasn’t expressed a desire to leave either. We want to move forward with this squad.”

Ausilio Addresses Gianluigi Donnarumma Speculation

Donnarumma is reportedly homesick and wants to leave Paris, with Inter emerging as the best candidate to sign him in the summer.

However, Ausilio opts to stay coy amid wild transfer speculation.

“To be honest, we are currently monitoring what the market might look like in June,” he said.

“But the goalkeeper position is neither a priority nor a necessity, as we already have two excellent goalkeepers proving their worth.

“Beyond the respect we have for Donnarumma, the goalkeeper position is not our focus. We’re looking at other areas.”
