Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard feels today’s Champions League clash will be key for getting one step closer to the team’s goal.
The Frenchman spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of the match. He also gave his thoughts on Leipzig, having faced them numerous times while at Bayern Munich.
Inter take on Leipzig in their fifth match of this season’s edition of the Champions League.
The Nerazzurri have yet to lose a match in the competition so far this campaign. They have also yet to concede a goal.
Leipzig, meanwhile, are one of six teams to have lost all of their matches so far in the Champions League.
Therefore, on paper, Inter will certainly be the favourites to take three points. And that would put the Nerazzurri right on the precipice of at least qualifying for the playoff round of the round of sixteen,
But Inter will know full well that it’s not going to be that easy.
Leipzig have shown their quality with their form in the Bundesliga, even if they’ve had a very disappointing Champions League campaign so far.
Inter defender Pavard said ahead of this evening’s match that “Tonight’s match is very important.”
“We know that,” the 29-year-old made clear.
“With a win, we’d get one step closer to our objective.”
“We’ve thoroughly studied Leipzig,” Pavard continued. “They’re a tough team, but we’re ready to give everything.”
“Particularly with the support of the fans behind us.”
Pavard then called Leipzig a “very strong team.”
“I’ve faced them several times when I was at Bayern Munich,” the Frenchman went on. “I know the quality they have well.”
“They come here to win,” Pavard said. “That’s certain.”
The Inter defender noted that Leipzig “have fast players with quality, so we’ll need to pay a lot of attention in defense.”
