The night of May 6 feels a long time ago: when Yann Sommer, despite conceding three goals to Barcelona, played a decisive role in Inter Milan’s dramatic win that sealed their path to Munich.

However, as Tuttosport note today, the Swiss goalkeeper’s form this season has been far less convincing.

Inter placed full trust in Sommer again for 2025–26, keeping Josep Martinez as deputy.

The club hierarchy, however, had encouraged Cristian Chivu to give the Spaniard more minutes, leading to rotation earlier in the campaign.

That plan, though, has been paused: especially after last week’s tragic incident involving Martinez.

“The dual Sommer–Martinez track,” writes the paper, “has temporarily merged back into one, with the Swiss veteran firmly in charge.”

Yet his form has raised concerns.

The 36-year-old has produced a mix of solid and shaky displays.

Indeed, recent outings have left both staff and supporters uneasy.

According to Tuttosport, Sommer’s performances are “well below” those of his Serie A rivals, and the data backs it up.

The key metric is “goals prevented” – the difference between expected goals on target (xGoT) and actual goals conceded.

While Vanja Milinkovic-Savic of Torino leads with a +1.76 rating, meaning he has prevented over a goal and a half more than expected, Sommer sits at -2.37, the only negative figure among goalkeepers of the top four clubs.

He has saved just 16 of the 27 shots faced.
