Lautaro Martinez struck the decisive goal as Argentina beat England 2-1 in the World Cup semi-finals. The Albiceleste return to the final three and a half years after their Qatar title, and Inter Milan will be represented for the 12th edition in a row, the longest active run.

The sequence began in 1982, when three Inter players were present, Giuseppe Bergomi, Gabriele Oriali and Alessandro Altobelli. Altobelli scored the third goal in the 3-1 win over West Germany.

In total, the run has involved five Italians, four Germans, three Argentines, two Croats, one Brazilian, one Frenchman, Youri Djorkaeff in 1998, and one Dutchman.

Two names appear in two different editions, Ronaldo 'Fenomeno' in 1998 and 2002, when he struck a brace to seal Brazil's title, 2-0 against Germany, and Lautaro Martinez in 2022 and 2026.

With England and France both eliminated in the semi-finals, Bayern Munich's streak stops at 11 consecutive editions. Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise and Harry Kane, the Bavarian club's last hopes, all failed to reach the final. They will meet in the third-place match on Saturday at 23:00.
