Denzel Dumfries will reportedly make his first Serie A start since November when Inter Milan face off against Atalanta on Saturday.
According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Dutch wingback is desperate to make an instant impact upon a long-awaited return to the starting XI.
It has been five months since Denzel Dumfries last started a match in Serie A.
Indeed, the 29-year-old suffered a nasty ankle injury at the beginning of November.
Furthermore, he had to undergo surgery the following month, further delaying his return to full fitness.
Unfortunately, marquee summer signing Luis Henrique has failed to impress during the former PSV Eindhoven star’s absence.
Dumfries came off the bench in last weekend’s frustrating 1-0 defeat to AC Milan.
However, he seemed a bit rusty, failing to demonstrate his pace and attacking threat down the right flank.
Still, Cristian Chivu has grown tired of Henrique’s underwhelming performances and is ready to bench the Brazilian.
Therefore, Dumfries will return to the starting lineup this weekend, looking to pick up where he left off in November.
Indeed, he is desperate to secure a swift return to the Dutch national team ahead of March’s friendlies against Norway and Ecuador.
