Inter and Hakan Calhanoglu are set for another lively summer after the rumors about Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the previous two. A move to the Cimbom could still be in the cards, but the Nerazzurri are seriously pondering offering him a new contract, Mediaset reports.

He’s currently tied to them until 2027. The higher-ups, who have always valued him more than his suitors, had soured on a renewal at the beginning of the year. The star midfielder missed several matches because of multiple muscular injuries.

However, Calhanoglu returned with a bang, and Inter as a whole work better than he’s on the pitch. Despite his absences, as he has sat out 16 out of 45 fixtures this campaign, he has put up superb numbers. He has hit the net 10 times, and not just on PKs, and provided 5 assists.

Christian Chivu is a big fan, but the parties would have to make the numbers work to continue together. The playmaker has a €6.5M salary. The team would like to lower it if he were to commit for a few more years. Conversely, he’d easily draw richer offers from other leagues.

It probably wouldn’t even be a doubt if it weren’t for his injury woes, as he’s been brilliant when fully fit. He played on an expiring deal when he was much younger, and Bosman transfers, especially involving top-shelf players, weren’t that common. He could easily do it again. The Nerazzurri seem headed for a busy summer littered with transfers. It might be better for them to hold onto the older players that are still producing to prevent a leadership void.
