Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries is reportedly at risk of missing Sunday’s heavyweight Serie A showdown against AC Milan.

According to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old is still feeling discomfort in his left ankle, throwing his availability into doubt.

Denzel Dumfries suffered a slight knock during Inter’s 2-0 home win over Lazio on the stroke of the international break.

Though it looked innocuous at the time, the former PSV Eindhoven star had to pull out of the Dutch squad last week.

Indeed, Ronald Koeman allowed him to return to San Siro earlier so that he could work on his recovery.

Dumfries’ injury was the last thing Cristian Chivu needed after already losing Henrikh Mkhitaryan to a thigh problem.

More importantly, Inter lack a reliable alternative on the right wing as Luis Henrique flopped since swapping Marseille for Serie A in the summer.

However, Chivu may draw some confidence from Matteo Darmian’s return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Despite his age, the 35-year-old has been a dependable option in defense for years, and he could fill Dumfries shoes on Sunday if needed.
