Inter Weighed Aston Villa Newcomer in the Past Window

Inter only had a move around the fringes in January, replacing Tajon Buchanan with Nicola Zalewski, but they were ready to do something more substantial and go for Marco Asensio had they offloaded a striker, Corriere dello Sport informs.

A few Serie A sides kicked the tires on Marko Arnautovic. However, nobody managed to convince him to leave Milan six months before the end of his contract. Joaquin Correa was shopped around but to no avail.

Inter had earmarked Asensio, picking him over Joao Felix, if they needed to restore their frontline. The Spaniard wasn’t getting regular minutes at PSG. He indeed transferred in January, moving to Aston Villa on loan. The Birmingham-based team signed both him and Marcus Rashford temporarily. He had been linked to Milan earlier in the window.

The Nerazzurri have been searching for a pacey attacker for a while but will have to postpone their search till the summer. The two veterans will come off the books. In the meantime, they have finalized their agreement with Dinamo Zagreb for Petar Sucic, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. They’ll spend €14M plus €2.5M add-ons and a 10 percent resale clause. He’ll take the medicals and ink a five-year contract soon.

Our Take on Inter and Asensio

They were careful not to alter the balance of their squad but, given how little Arnautovic, Correa, and even Mehdi Taremi are giving them, they could have taken advantage of the Buchanan’s departure to sign an attacker right away. A slippery spark-plug off the bench who could play either as a no.10 or as a second striker has been a glaring hole for a couple of years.
