Lauren Hemp assisted the winning goal as England defeated Iceland 1-0 in 2027 World Cup qualifying.

In what was the 500th game for the Lionesses, Hemp drove forward in Rejkavic’s Laugardalsvollur Stadium before laying the ball off to Arsenal’s Alessia Russo who made no mistake with a firm right-foot finish on 21 minutes.

That goal decided the game as Sarina Wiegman’s side maintained their 100% record in this campaign.

Laura Blindkilde Brown and Alex Greenwood also started, Blindkilde Brown playing 63 minutes before being replaced by former Blue, Jess Park, while Greenwood came off for Niamh Charles on 78 minutes.

Back-to-back Euros winners England have 12 points from four matches, which is a three point cushion from world champions Spain, in Europe League A, Group 3.

Laura Wienroither and Rebecca Knaak both had a watching brief as Austria and Germany played out a 0-0 draw in 2027 World Cup qualifying.

Neither player saw minutes as the Europe League A, Group 4 game ended in stalemate at BWT X Oberosterreichische Arena, four days after Germany defeated Austria 5-1 in the reverse clash at Nuremberg’s Max-Morlock Stadium.

This latest result means Knaak’s Germany remain top of the group with 10 points from four games while Wienroither’s Austria are at the foot with this solitary point from the opening quartet of matches, having lost their opening three.
