City’s versatile defender started at left-back in Orlando and was joined by former Blue John Stones in Thomas Tuchel’s backline.

After kick-off was delayed by an hour due to weather conditions in Florida, Declan Rice opened the scoring in the ninth minute when arriving onto a cut-back and firing home.

That represented the first half’s only goal, but Anthony Gordon despatched from the penalty spot to double England’s lead with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Tuchel then rung the changes with the final stages approaching, which included Dan Burn replacing O’Reilly, meanwhile, James Trafford remained unused.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins then rubber-stamped the win when heading into the net from close range in what was England’s final outing ahead of the World Cup.

The Three Lions are in Group L and start the tournament with a clash against Croatia on the following Wednesday 17 June, kick-off 21:00 (UK), at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.

Elsewhere, Ruben Dias played the first 45 minutes in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Nigeria.

The European nation took the lead courtesy of Pedro Neto’s drilled effort into the bottom corner from just inside the box, but Eric Chelle’s team equalised before the break.

On 37 minutes, Akor Adams collected the ball inside the area and coolly dispatched to bring Nigeria Level.

Portugal boss Roberto Martinez then made nine substitutions during the interval which saw Dias replaced by Tomas Araujo and former City man Bernardo Silva come onto the field.

Following the restart, Francisco Conceicao scored with 15 minutes remaining as the 2016 European champions signed off ahead of the World Cup with a victory.

Dias and Co. are in Group K with their first match taking place against DR Congo at Houston’s NRG Stadium on Wednesday 17 June, kick-off 18:00 (UK).
