Former City midfielder Michael Brown believes Sunday’s resounding 6-0 win away at Ipswich Town served as a real statement result from Pep Guardiola’s resurgent side.
The reigning champions served up a sumptuous, free-flowing display of attacking football at Portman Road securing a thumping victory that equalled the Club’s biggest ever Premier League away win.
After the game, manager Pep Guardiola pointed to the numerous positives from the match.
Phil Foden bagged a second successive brace on the road following his two goals at Brentford, Jeremy Doku got on the scoresheet and was involved in five of our goals while James McAtee notched up a first league goal for City.
And for former City midfielder Brown, who was part of our Matchday Live team down in Suffolk, the victory and performance also sent out a wider signal.
“It feels good to be back and to get a top, top result on the road like this. It was special away performance, and a big statement win,” Brown declared.
“You looked at the celebrations at full time with our travelling fans and the players know that the supporters have really deserved a big performance like this.
“They have stuck with it when there have been some difficult times, but you knew it was coming and that someone was going to cop for it and Sunday was one of those moments.
“There were some top performances, and you look how we ended the game with so many young players out on the pitch
“People will say its Ipswich Town, that they are towards the bottom of the table and it’s a new club to the Premier League, but you have got to do what you’ve got to do.
“We’ve seen Phil Foden going away and getting goals again, we’ve seen Erling Haaland score again, the impact of Jeremy Doku and all the youngsters getting on.
“And what’s been really good about the game was not just the result and the performance, it was also being able to rest players in the second half ready for another big, big game on Wednesday away at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
“Now hopefully we can keep moving on upwards in the table.
“It’s all about building confidence and building belief.”
