With one month until the World Cup, 11 June to 19 July, uncertainty persists over Iran’s participation amid an unresolved armed conflict involving the Islamic Republic, the United States and Israel.

According to Irna, Iranian federation chief Mehdi Taj said no visas had yet been issued for the national team to travel to the United States. He added that a decisive meeting with FIFA was due tomorrow or the day after, and that FIFA must provide guarantees because the visa issue remains unsolved.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has reiterated that Iran will play their World Cup matches in the United States as planned.

Taj said players must travel to Ankara, in Türkiye, to give fingerprints as part of the visa procedure.

Iran are due to be based in Tucson, Arizona, and are set to face New Zealand on 16 June at 03.00, Belgium on 21 June at 21.00 and Egypt on 27 June at 05.00 in Group G.
