It had been felt that Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich were awaiting a decision from Florian Wirtz over his future. Wirtz did loom as the biggest name available in the transfer market this summer. Now, a new report indicates that Manchester City have withdrawn from the race to sign the German international. What now becomes interesting is who City will now target to add creativity to their midfield?
Sami Mokbel has reported for the BBC that Manchester City have withdrawn from the race to sign Florian Wirtz. Mokebl reports that City believe a move for Wirtz is too expensive to pursue. It has further been reported by Sacha Tavolieri on X that Florian Wirtz has decided to move to Bayern Munich. Tavolieri’s report can be seen below.
The transfer saga that has been the future of Florian Wirtz is now over. He has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich. As Sacha Tavolieri reports, Dani Olmo is Manchester City’s plan B now that they’ve lost out on Wirtz. But for me, one player stands out as a better option than Dani Olmo from Barcelona, in my opinion.
That player is RB Leipzig’s Dutch international Xavi Simons. Xavi Simons seems to be the next best young playmaker available on the market. In my opinion, his game would complement what Manchester City already have. City need a player who can score from midfield and create for his teammates. Xavi Simons can do just that. He is also young, with his best football ahead of him. Fabrizio Romano has reported that it is expected that Xavi Simons will likely leave RB Leipzig this summer. So he is available and looms as a player Manchester City should look into signing.
The Florian Wirtz saga now appears to be over. Manchester City will now need to look elsewhere to add a number 10 to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Dani Olmo looms as a potential target as per Sacha Tavolieri’s report. But for me, City should pursue a move for Xavi Simons. He could potentially be a player that represents good value given his age, talent and potential.
