Manchester City boss Andrée Jeglertz hailed his side’s hunger to keep winning after they sealed a domestic double with a 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The Cityzens had already celebrated winning the Barclays Women’s Super League title and they followed it up with a first Adobe Women’s FA Cup final success in six years.

After completing the domestic double in his first season at Manchester City, head coach Jeglertz reflected on a successful campaign and emphasised the importance of maintaining hunger for future success.

“It was an amazing end of the season,” Jeglertz said when speaking in the post-match press conference. “It’s been a long year. Winning the WSL title was big for the club but we’ve also talked about there’s one thing of being able to win the title but also, just a couple of weeks later, being able to be a winning team that is also winning the next title, so keep on having this hunger and dedication to want something more, not be pleased.

“I think that will be a very important thing for us in the future, to not think that anything will be prevented. We need to keep on having this hunger for the next level.”

Manchester City took the lead through Khadija Shaw in the 38th minute and Jeglertz highlighted the Jamaican international’s importance following her four-year contract extension.

He said “It’s amazing that she thinks our programme is the best way to become a better football player and also, this is the right place she wants to be to win titles. We have Bunny Shaw in our team and we play a certain way to get the best out of her.

“If you have another kind of striker, you need to do it differently and I’ve said the whole time the biggest task is to play a certain way where I get the absolute best out of my players. To get the best out of her is to put her in these situations and of course now that she is staying, it’s going to be keeping on doing that.”

Another player who impressed was captain Alex Greenwood, who contributed an assist for Shaw and scored herself from a free-kick before half-time. Jeglertz paid tribute to the defender.

He said “There’s a lot you can say about her. First, she’s a great person, player and leader. She has meant a lot to me this year, also because she’s taking care of the locker room all of the time.

“She’s a great leader and also as a player, like you see today, she’s played centre-back for many years but she’s also shown she’s curious to become a better player in all positions.

“She was fantastic at left-back today and with her qualities and personality to still be eager to get better, everyone understands that’s the right way to be.”

Manchester City ended a four-year trophy drought by landing a domestic double this season.
