Marco Bellinazzo has delivered his verdict on the sale of San Siro and the surrounding areas to AC Milan and Inter.

Speaking to MilanNews.it via FCInterNews, the Italian journalist hailed the Milan City Council’s decision to sanction the deal.

Earlier this week, the council green-lighted the sale, allowing the Milan clubs to replace the outdated San Siro with a new, state-of-the-art venue.

Indeed, months of negotiations have finally paid off.

However, it’s only the beginning of what promises to be a long and arduous journey.

Furthermore, the clubs must close the deal before November 10 to avoid restrictions that could block the demolition of the existing stadium.

Therefore, the Serie A giants are working around the clock to get the paperwork done.

Meanwhile, they’ve already hired famous British architect Norman Foster to design the new arena.

For starters, Bellinazzo explained the clubs’ ambitious plans’ potential impact on the city.

Milan and Inter’s joint project bids to revitalize the neighborhood and create new economic and social opportunities.

“It was a necessary choice to kickstart a redevelopment project for the area,” Bellinazzo insisted.

“First of all, because this is an issue that is often overlooked.

“Anyone in Milan knows that this area, beyond matchdays, remains neglected during the week.”

Then, Bellinazzo highlighted the importance of Milan and Inter having their own stadium.

Indeed, it’s probably the only way for the Serie A heavyweights to keep pace with top European clubs.

“It was also a crucial step to allow Milan and Inter to fully enter, as they deserve, into the modern football industry.

“Without a stadium with the right structural features and the ability to offer specific services, it would be impossible to reach the revenue levels required to stay at the top of European football.”
