Italy have approached Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti over the vacant head coach role, with FIGC president Giovanni Malago, technical director Paolo Maldini and adviser Leonardo confirming this on Thursday. They are planning their next steps after missing the last three World Cups.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Antonio Conte has the backing of Serie A clubs for a second spell in charge. Andrea Pirlo has also been mentioned despite a comparatively modest coaching record.
Guardiola has been linked with the Italy job for some time, while Ancelotti, currently Brazil coach, has now been added to the list.
Ancelotti did not take Brazil beyond the Round of 16 at his first international tournament. Guardiola is ending his Manchester City tenure after a decorated decade.
The Spaniard has previously spoken about moving into international football, and there have been reports he was contacted by the England FA before their commitment with Thomas Tuchel. Italy did win the Euros in 2021.
