Italy Star Declares: ‘It’s An Honour To Be At Inter Milan In A Period Where We’re Winning Trophies’ | OneFootball

Nicolo Barella feels that it’s an “honour” to be at Inter Milan during a period where the club is winning so many trophies.

The 27-year-old gave his thoughts in the matchday programme for today’s Serie A clash with Juventus.

Barella joined Inter in the summer of 2019 from Cagliari.

When the Italian international joined the Nerazzurri, it had been some years since the club had been winning trophies.

There had been clear signs of growth in the period before Barella’s arrival. Inter were not in the kind of doldrums that they had been in the mid-2010s.

But as far as trophies, Inter fans would have to wait a bit longer.

In Barella’s first season at Inter, the club failed to win any trophies once again.

But the Nerazzurri finished second in Serie A that season, close behind Juventus. And they also reached the final of the Europa League, losing 3-2 to Sevilla.

Then, in Barella’s second season at Inter, he helped the team to win their first Serie A title in eleven years.

Barella and Inter did not stop there, however.

Since the 2020-21 Serie A title, the Nerazzurri have won a total of six trophies under Simone Inzaghi.

There have been two Coppa Italia trophies, three Supercoppa Italiana titles, and last season, the second league title that Barella has won with Inter.

Meanwhile, during the 2022-23 season, Inter reached the Champions League final. They lost that final 1-0 against Manchester City.

“For me it’s an honour to have come to Inter at a moment in their history where we are winning a lot of trophies,” Barella said.

“Also because it’s not to be taken for granted that you’ll always win again each year.”

“Obviously there have been victories and defeats along our journey,” Barella reflected.

“But even those have helped us grow and improve. To understand what it means to wear this shirt and win trophies for these fans.”

Barella also looked back on his first goal for Inter in Serie A. He said that one of his favourite memories for the club was “My first goal in the league, against Verona.”

“It had been a while by that point since I’d joined Inter,” the 27-year-old looked back. “I’d really been looking forward to it.”

Barella then said that “The first Scudetto we won was a new and unique feeling.”

“Then, the second was special in another way,” the former Cagliari midfielder said.

Of the celebrations for the title last season, Barella said that “The bus parade was incredible.”

“We deserved to experience a day like that in front of our fans,” the Inter midfielder said.

“The love from them was never lacking, over all these years. They’ve always pushed us on and given us their applause, and in that moment I really felt what Inter means for the fans.”

“That’s a day that will forever remain imprinted in everyone’s minds,” Barella said.
