Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi insists the transfer rumors linking him with Roma were unfounded, while discussing his current situation at Appiano Gentile.

The 24-year-old joined the Nerazzurri last summer but couldn’t break into the starting lineup. Simone Inzaghi still preferred the golden trio of Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

But this season, Frattesi is hoping to earn more starts, but it won’t be easy following the arrival of another contender in Piotr Zielinski.

Therefore, the former Sassuolo man realizes he must fight hard for his spot.

“I always have to give more because you can always improve,” said Frattesi in his interview with Rai Sport (via FcInterNews).

“I have to take a step forward. My ‘competitors’ aren’t bad at all. So we’ll have to fight to get playing time.”

On another note, the Italian denied all rumors that linked him with a return to his former club Roma during the summer transfer session.

“No, it wasn’t true. I enjoyed reading certain stories, but there was nothing true about it.”

Frattesi is currently preparing for Italy’s UEFA Nations League contest against France in Paris.

He admits that the EURO 2024 was a major letdown. But he insists that the blame doesn’t only lie on Luciano Spalletti.

“The disappointment was huge because we were unable to give our people an important satisfaction.

“The blame should be divided in half. It’s the players who enter the pitch. I’ve always thought so. We all made mistakes.

“We understood where we went wrong, now we have to start again because it was a big blow for us and for all the Azzurri supporters. It was a heavy stain.”
