The Irish international central-defender, joined the club in 2021 and is approaching 150 appearances for the Celtic, having established himself as a first pick for Brendan Rodgers, Martin O’Neill (twice) and Wilfried Nancy. Ahead of that Ange Postecoglou had sent him out on loan to Aberdeen and the Pittdorie side were desperate to sign him just as Brendan returned to the club in June 2023.

Liam’s  performances on both the domestic and European scenes for Celtic have also earned Scales multiple caps and the Celtic defender is now very much a regular first-team player for the Republic of Ireland.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on a new deal with Celtic, the Irishman expressed his delight at committing his future to the Hoops.

“I’m delighted to commit for another few years here,” Scales told the official Celtic FC website. “It’s an amazing club and I’ve grown to love it. I feel a real part of it now. I really enjoy myself here, I love my life here in Scotland and it was good for all parties to get this done. I’m hoping that these next years will be my best.

“I feel like I’ve got the game experience now, I’ve played nearly 150 games for the club and I’ve played for Ireland. It’s all coming together nicely and I just want to continue on the right trajectory over these next few years.”

Martin O’Neill had this to say about the new contract for Liam Scales:  “I’m delighted for him and delighted for the club because I think Liam’s been outstanding, and since I’ve been here, he’s been absolutely terrific. We are a better team when he’s in and he’s also got the ability to play left-back, and I think it’s good news for the club because he’s always there.

“I like him a lot and I think he’s been a major player for us this season.”
