Arne Slot's future at Liverpool is all over, there is no going back for him now.
Whether you like him or not, the Dutchman will forever be remembered for his contributions at Anfield. He won the Premier League in his first season, and sure he benefitted from what Jurgen Klopp had built but he also made tweaks that were instrumental in Liverpool lifting the league title.
But none of that negates the fact that, this season he is completely culpable and out of his depth.
Since winning the Premier League, Liverpool have gone on one of the worst runs in the club's history.
Slot won less than 50% of his games in 2025. He's won even less than that in 2026. The Reds have won just 10 of their last 21 games.
Since winning their first five games of the season, Liverpool have only won nine matches in the Premier League in 26 games.
That is simply not good enough, and there is no going back from this.
The Manchester City game on Saturday night showed that Slot was out of his depth. This was a City side that isn't at its greatest. A City side that had their assistant on the bench in Pep Lijnders with Pep Guardiola serving a suspension.
This is a City side that were made to look ordinary by Real Madrid. One of the worst City sides in the Guardiola era.
And yet they humiliated Liverpool, winning 4-0.
But it's not even about the result, it's about the performance. Liverpool's stars had no excuse to perform in the manner that they did.
Slot had plenty of time to prepare for this game - he had two weeks off during the international game. In these two weeks he promised to turn things around.
Instead, he turned up at the Etihad with a tan, and a team plan that was absolutely dismantled within a few minutes.
His Liverpool side looked out of depth. A team full of stars looked like they were a League One side taking on one of the best teams in the Premier League.
It was amateur and the reaction from the Liverpool fanbase was telling. Fans left the stadium early. Those who stayed booed the team at full-time. The ones who left sang Alonso's name in the tunnel.
It was a damning indictment of Slot's style of football. There's no redeeming quality to it.
Slot set-up in a way that wasn't effective again. He's been outclassed in most Premier League matches, and against most Premier League managers this season.
City was merely confirmation that it's all over for him as the long-term head-coach of the club.
The fans are now turning against him. He's got no answers left and it's clear based on the performances of his players, that at least a portion of the dressing room have lost their faith in him.
It doesn't matter how many roundtables Liverpool record. It doesn't matter what the club will officially brief to the media. Because if results continue this way, and they will, he will be relieved of his duties. It's a matter of when, not if now.
Saturday made it clear that there is no going back, it's finally all over for Arne Slot at Liverpool. This is well and truly the end of his reign at Anfield.
