After returning from the serious broken fibula injury he suffered last summer, Jamal Musiala has experienced a setback that is currently keeping him sidelined.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said the club is taking a cautious approach with the 23-year-old.
“We’re in constant contact with Jamal – depending on how he’s progressing and how he’s feeling,” said Kompany.
“At the moment, it’s all on an individual basis. He’ll rejoin the squad at the right moment. It’s not just about his ankle, it’s also about his fitness. He’s improved physically; he’s more stable. He exudes maturity.”
In close coordination with Kompany, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann opted to leave Musiala out of this month’s friendly squad, with the aim of allowing him to recover properly and build consistent playing time ahead of the World Cup.
“We share the same goal when it comes to Jamal Musiala. We want him to be fit; that’s good for us and for the national team," said Kompany.
“I hope things keep getting better in the run-up to the World Cup. I’m not worried; it’s getting better and better.”
