Last Thursday’s deadline day move to N17 had been a long time coming for new signing Cathinka Tandberg.
Joining us from Hammarby IF on a permanent transfer, her journey to Spurs began as a 10-year-old when she first visited our iconic former home, White Hart Lane.
Having spotted the famous Lilywhite shirt on TV when watching the Premier League as a youngster, her dad brought her to north London and they paid a visit to the Lane to watch our UEFA Europa League clash against Besiktas in October, 2014.
Revealing she was a huge Harry Kane fan when growing up, the young forward witnessed the legendary Spurs forward find the back of the net in the 1-1 draw with the Turkish side in front of a packed crowd in N17.
That experience of being in the stands left it clear in her mind what she wanted to do with her life, as turned to her her dad on that night under the lights and said, ‘I’m going to play here one day’ and, eleven years later, she is going to realise that dream.
“I’ve always been a fan, watching Spurs play when I was young and I always followed the Premier League, so this is like a dream come true to come here, she told us. “So, since the first time I heard about them, I have wanted this.
“My dad took us to London and we went to see (Spurs) play. It was such a good experience, the fans and everything was so big. I told my dad ‘I’m going to play here one day’.
“When I heard Spurs was interested, for me, it was an easy choice. I said ‘I don’t want anything else than Spurs’ so since the first time I heard about them, I have wanted this.”
Set to embark on a new adventure as a Lilywhite in the Barclays Women’s Super League, she was asked what our fanbase can expect from her, with our new number 19 outlining her style of play.
“Of course I want to score goals,” she explained, speaking to SPURSPLAY after her arrival. “I’m a very physical player, always fighting for the team and fighting for the Club I’m playing for.
“I like to be in the opponents’ box, try finishing, scoring headers… just anything towards the goal.
“All of the best strikers in the world are good with everything. They can score with every cross, whether that’s their head, left foot or right foot, so for me, it’s trying to be good at everything. I have always trained to get in the opponents’ box and find finishes.”
