This winter window has left a cluster of names without clubs, careers diverted by injuries, off-field choices and changing contexts.
According to Superdeporte, James Rodríguez, 34, tops the list. The 2014 World Cup Golden Boot joined Real Madrid for 75 million euros. After Bayern and Everton spells, León of México ended his deal this January.
Edoardo Bove, 23, suffered cardiac arrest in 2024 while on loan at Fiorentina. Fitted with a defibrillator, he cannot play in Italy, so Roma ended a contract to 2028. He is seeking leagues with different rules after a peak value of 18 million euros.
Dele Alli’s fall has been stark. Valued at 100 million euros in 2018, he faded amid off-field issues. A spell at Cesc Fàbregas’s Como ended early, and the 29-year-old has been without a club since September.
Paco Alcácer, 32, left Sharjah and remains a free agent. Barcelona paid 30 million euros before Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal. His market high was 50 million euros in 2019.
Jesse Lingard never cemented elite status at Manchester United. Valued at 40 million euros in 2019, he later moved out of the spotlight. After FC Seoul, the 33-year-old became a free agent this January.
Kurt Zouma, 31, left West Ham after a loan at Al-Orobah, was released, then joined Cluj without settling. He is again on the market this January.
Lorenzo Insigne, 34, left Toronto FC last summer and has yet to find a club. The Napoli great once carried a 75 million euro valuation.
