Jamie Carragher believes Enzo Maresca has been let down by Chelsea after their transfer business in the summer.
The Blues had a successful season last time out as they qualified for the Champions League and won both the Conference League and Club World Cup.
With that success expectations have obviously been raised for this season, although the Blues have had a mixed start to the campaign.
The Blues are already seven points off the leaders after just five games, and have won two, drawn two and lost one of their opening five games.
Chelsea once again invested heavily in the playing squad over the summer, and made six first team signings, five of which were attackers.
Joao Pedro has hit the ground running, whilst Estevao looks impressive, but once again the Blues seem to lack quality in key areas.

Chelsea don’t have a top class centre back or a top class goalkeeper, and they’ve paid the price for that already this season, with Carragher believing the club have let Maresca down.
“Defeating PSG should have signalled a new era of intent,” he wrote in The Telegraph.
“Regardless of mine or anyone else’s opinion of the Fifa event, Chelsea should have left the United States with the message: “We’re here, and we’re coming for the Premier League and Champions League next.
“Instead, the next six weeks of transfer activity were odd.
“Maresca has a right to feel let down by his recruiters. He has had a good 12 months, doing what was expected in the Premier League, winning the Conference League and adding the Club World Cup.”
Maresca has seemingly made it clear with his comments that he wasn’t particularly happy with the summer business.
The Italian stated publicly on more than one occasion he wanted a new centre back to replace the injured Levi Colwill, but his wish wasn’t granted.

Chelsea had the opportunity to upgrade in goal with Mike Maignan, but weren’t prepared to get near AC Milan’s valuation, and these are both decisions which they look to already be paying the price for.
The Blues are down to just two fit centre backs for the game against Brighton in Trevoh Chalobah and Josh Acheampong, and it’s up to Maresca to find solutions.
