Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after a home defeat by Newcastle United, a result that allowed Leeds United to climb above them following their 2-2 draw at Chelsea.
Spurs have won only one of their last 10 league games and sit five points and two places above the relegation zone. The slide led to Wednesday’s decision to part company with the former Brentford manager.
“At this moment in time and what I am watching, no we can’t fight like Leeds. The problem Spurs have got and because it is so outrageous where we are in the league for the second season, it’s so toxic and so bad it is like a sledgehammer has hit the football club.” He was speaking on talkSPORT.
“Everything about the football club now is rotten, it is disgusting. I think the players are complacent with the beautiful stadium, big wages, nice training ground and they haven’t got the stomach for a fight. We are in a relegation battle and we are sleepwalking to the Championship.”
The Leeds head coach praised a never-say-die display, saying he was proud of his players against a side in red-hot form. He highlighted key absentees, naming Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and Pascal Struijk, and noted several first starts after injury. As a newly promoted side, he said belief underpinned their comeback mentality.
