January transfer “biggest priorities” for Chelsea still stuck because of these factors

With January now just days away, we can get really serious about Chelsea and what they might be up to in the transfer window.

We’ve said all along we don’t expect them to do much in terms of buying players – but there will likely be a sale or two, and some loan movements too.

The Athletic have a piece about players who could leave in January, with some of them more obvious than others. They name Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi as the “biggest priorities” in terms of outgoings with both former first teamers having been frozen out of the main group all season.

Chelsea pair stuck in same situation as the summer, with no obvious way out

Chelsea have apparently snubbed a Ligue 1 loan for Disasi, prioritising a permanent sale and also keen to keep hold of their limited, precious international loan slots. There doesn’t seem to be that much interest in buying him from anywhere – he’s been up for sale for 18 months now without anyone really making a push.

Sterling is stuck in the same old situation – on wages too big for anyone else to pay, and unwilling to leave the London area, where his family live. It’s honestly hard to see how his situation is resolved at all.

In other news…

Robert Sanchez has been in good form of late, and he spoke to the club’s website about how important it would be to get a win tomorrow against the most in form team in the Premier League.

Sanchez also talked about his team’s back 4, and how the recent defensive improvement was in large part down to them finally being able to play together consistently for an extended period. They will be seriously tested when we taken on a high flying Aston Villa side.
