Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy believes Marc Guiu is a better fit for the striker role at Chelsea than Christopher Nkunku.

The Blues have made a good start to the season and currently sit fourth in the league and remain on track to qualify for the Champions League.

However, a run of four league matches without a win has seen the gap to Newcastle in fifth close to one point, as the race for the top four hots up.

Two points from the last 12 available will be a concern to Maresca along with the fact the goals seemed to have dried up in the Premier League, with the Blues only scoring twice in those four games.

Chelsea are still the third highest scorers in the league with 39 goals, but they were leading the way until their recent dry spell in front of goal.

Cole Palmer has 13 league goals, while Nicolas Jackson has impressed with nine, but the 23-year-old is on a run of one goal in his last six games.

Not having an alternative to Jackson is starting to harm Chelsea with Nkunku not delivering at number nine or seeming a good fit for how Enzo Maresca plays.

Guiu is the other alternative, and despite impressing in the Conference League, including a hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers he’s been used sparingly in the league, although Maresca has said he doesn’t want him going on loan.

The teenager saw his first action in the league since the opening day of the season in the draw against Crystal Palace, but the Blues could really do with another striker , and they’ve been linked with a move for Liam Delap.

Cundy has had his say on the striker situation and believes Guiu is a better fit than Nkunku for the striker role given how Chelsea play.

“Whatever you think of Guiu’s age, we’ve seen a lot of him in the Conference League and there’s something in him,” he told talkSPORT as quoted by The Chelsea Chronicle.

“He works hard, he’s quick and he gets his goals. The reason he now comes on instead of Nkunku is because he’s a better fit for that Jackson role, Nkunku is not that player I’m afraid.”
