Javi Guerra clause to rise on one August as Valencia hold firm | OneFootball

Today is a key date for Valencia’s summer. It is the final day Javi Guerra’s buyout stands at 40 million euros, with his clause rising to 60 million euros from Saturday, one August, under his contract. Any exit would be remote unless Peter Lim agreed to negotiate below that figure, which is not in the club’s plans.

Guerra has repeatedly signalled he wants to remain at Mestalla. "I have always said I am happy in my city, with my people and at my club... as long as they keep wanting me the same, I will be here." This was said in an interview with Tribuna Deportiva during the Girona training camp.

European clubs have tracked him in recent windows, with Barcelona among those to make contact. Sporting director Deco met the player’s representatives in June to learn about his sporting and contractual situation. He remains on Barcelona’s list, although that interest has not become a formal offer.

Valencia are firmer than in past markets in their intention to keep him. They extended his deal last summer to 2029 and view him as a pillar of the 26/27 project. On Thursday he fronted the launch of the second kit.

Chief executive Ron Gourlay plans to point all suitors for key players, including Guerra, to the release clause. New head coach Carlos Corberán counts on him and has used him as a 10 ahead of the pivot and the eight since day one of pre-season. That role brought his best level last season and indications are he will operate there again with freedom to drop deep or attack the box.
