South African international Jayden Adams has died just days after returning from his World Cup appearance.
The Mamelodi Sundowns player was found dead at his home in Stellenbosch. The announcement was made by the South African Football Players' Union and confirmed by a family spokesperson.
The cause of the player's death has not yet been officially released, but the South African newspaper Sunday World points out that all signs suggest Jayden Adams may have taken his own life.
The 25-year-old midfielder started in the first two group-stage matches, against Mexico and Czechia, and came off the bench against South Korea.
