Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz says that his side must perform better against Nottingham Forest than they did in their last Subway Women’s League Cup tie against Newcastle United a month ago.

The Cityzens take on The Tricky Trees at The City Ground on Saturday afternoon. A positive result will see Manchester City qualify for the quarter-finals.

Nottingham Forest are Manchester City’s second Barclays WSL2 opponents in the group stage. The Cityzens needed penalty kicks to see-off Newcastle United last time out. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Jeglertz called for a better performance from his side and highlighted the threats that Nottingham Forest can cause in transition.

“We can’t perform like we did against Newcastle in the last game, we definitely need to do a better performance,” Jeglertz said.

“They’re a good team. We played them in a friendly in August before the season started and they asked us some questions and gave us some challenges.

“We will definitely go into the game with respect for the opponent but we also know that if we do the things that we should do 100-percent, we should win the game. They have some quick forwards, so they’ll definitely be a threat in transitions.”

Qualification is the solitary aim for Manchester City but Jeglertz did hint on again rotating his squad to a degree.

He said “The most important thing is that we put out a team that can win the game and qualify for the next round.

“We have a great squad with good players and I think it’s also an opportunity for some to get some playing time. I haven’t decided yet how we are going to do that but it is an opportunity for that.”

Nottingham Forest play their home games at The City Ground, a venue which celebrated its 125th birthday no-so-long ago. Jeglertz is looking forward to watching his side play at another iconic English football stadium.

He said “Of course, it’s fantastic. Being a kid in Sweden, I’ve followed English football for so many years, so to come to these stadiums and breathe the atmosphere and feel the history is great both for me and for the players. I’m really looking forward to that.”

Manchester City’s Subway Women’s League Cup tie at Nottingham Forest kicks-off at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
