Andrée Jeglertz has praised the depth of his City squad after the Blues recorded an emphatic 5-1 win over Spurs in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
In search of successive top-flight wins, first-half goals from Aoba Fujino, Vivianne Miedema and Kerstin Casparij gave us a commanding advantage at the break in the capital.
Across the triumph, the Swede used all five allotted substitutes with two of those finding the back of the net after the break as Grace Clinton and Laura Coombs scored either side of the hosts’ consolation.
And Jeglertz believes the quality City have from the sidelines will be vital as we vie for major honours this term.
“It's [squad depth] important, not only the ones on the field starting the game, the ones coming in are bringing energy and that will be crucial for this team this year,” he explained.
“[Fujino] was great in the game. Look at Laura Blindkilde Brown also how she is working and how she's grown during the last weeks.
“This is also a player I would like to raise. Don't forget the ones who are coming into the game because there is also Kerolin, Jade Rose and Grace Clinton. Coombs coming in and scoring, so that will give us something for the team.”
Clinton’s strike ensured it would be a debut to remember for the England international who was making her City bow after signing on deadline day.
The combative midfielder bagged our fourth in London when she met Kerolin’s cross first-time to slot into the net from inside the area.
And Jeglertz says it’s just rewards for the 22-year-old following her commitment and enthusiasm since arriving from Manchester United.
He added: “I'm so happy for her because she has been working very good since she's been with the team and she deserved to get minutes today and how she did also.
“She wanted to be on the ball, she's playing with a lot of confidence so I'm happy for her.”
There was cause for concern in the strong Spurs success when Lauren Hemp was forced off during the first half after sustaining what appeared to be an ankle injury.
But Jeglertz says it’s too early to know the extent of the knock and that the forward will be monitored across the coming days.
When asked about Hemp’s condition he said: “I don't know, we'll see how it goes in the coming days.”
